Modern teens began to start sex life later than other generations
Representatives of generation Z go to parties less and devote more time to school activities - as a result, by the age of 14 only 3% have lost their virginity or had oral sex. In previous generations, rates were higher.
For comparison, among those born in the 1980s and 1990s, 30% had sex before they reached the age of 16.
Researchers say Generation Z teens are too worried about their grades hoping to go to university. They argue that young people today have less opportunity to “experiment” with sex because they spend more time studying and less at parties, “where alcohol and sex go hand in hand.” But at the same time, teens prefer Internet communication.
“This fits into the overall trend. We know that teenage pregnancies have also become much less, and the number of smokers and drinkers has declined over the past 20 years,” noted the researchers.
Specialists from University College London and Glasgow University used data on 11,000 children born in the UK between 2000 and 2002. The results were published in the Journal of Adolescent Health.
